FHWA Section 4(f) Streamlining Workshops - 2001
Lamar Smith , FHWA HQ

09/29/2001

Between February and September in 2001, the FHWA held a series of four Section 4(f) "streamlining" workshops in various areas of the Country:

1. February 15 - Eastern Area, Washington, DC
2. May, 23 - Southern Area, Washington, DC
3. August 30, 2001,Denver, CO
4. October 25 - Mid-Western Area, Chicago, IL

The purpose of the sessions were to facilitate a better understanding of legitimate flexibility currently available under Section 4(f) and to explore opportunities to further streamline the Section 4(f) processes. FHWA and State DOTs attended these sessions.

In working with other Federal agencies to implement environmental streamlining, we have identified FHWA administration of Section 4(f) requirements as an area deserving attention.

Discussion summaries from the each of the sessions are provided for your information.
